What happened

Meta acquired the PlayAI team in July 2025 to work on voice technology across Meta AI, wearables, and content tools.

Play.ht deprecated its Voice API and text-to-speech services in the months that followed and shut the service down on December 31, 2025. The play.ht website no longer loads.

If you relied on Play.ht voices or clones, they can't be exported now; you will need to recreate voices with another provider.

What Play.ht was

Play.ht (later branded PlayAI) was a text-to-speech studio and API known for realistic conversational voices and instant voice cloning, used for narration, videos, and podcasts.
